Hamilton at Majestic Theatre

This August, Hamilton will be performing in Majestic Theatre, the highest rated entertainment venue of San Antonio plus, the No.1 possible entertainment venue for this spectacular show. The acclaimed and multi-award winning show goes on to tell its stunning tale from town to town all over the Nation.

Debuting off Broadway in 2015, The production was not instantly the Broadway smash that it is now. Lin-Manuel Miranda has talked candidly about its inspiration, starting as a concept album in 2009, with Miranda saying that he was “thrilled that the White House called me tonight, because I’m actually working on a hip-hop album. It's a concept album about the life of someone I think embodies hip-hop: treasury secretary Alexander Hamilton.” That singular performance resulted in praise and a well-earned standing ovation from his crowd at the time, including former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and ultimately led to Miranda’s completion of the Hamilton musical we see now.

Because of his history in musical theater, Lin-Manuel Miranda has also gained influences from other popular theater pieces such as Les Misérables, which follows a common theme that tells the history of a struggle, and triumphing that struggle, instead of the typical musical theatre biases that tend to be very uplifting and happy. Similarly Hamilton, being about the difficulties arising as an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean who climbed the ladder and became the first U.S. Treasury Secretary. With the utmost respect to its source material, the Musical shows us both the good and bad in Alexander Hamilton’s rise to power, by not only giving us a peek into his character and struggle, but also his influence and lasting legacy in being able to powerfully shape the Country during his lifetime.

With its story, Hamilton continues to present its relevance in our modern culture and even international public discourse, confronting topics and challenges that are highly relevant not only to North America, but also globally. Even the use of musical genres like hip hop, jazz, and R&B as the main score has cemented its place in pop culture, making it one of the most exciting hit San Antonio musicals today.
